In Sehwi Dwenase, a suburb of Sehwi Wiawso in the Western North Region, a fire has damaged about eight metal and wooden structures and two living rooms.
The fire, which is believed to have started in the early hours of Tuesday, also caused minor damage to a nearby flour store.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but an eyewitness said it started in one of the stalls before spreading to other nearby structures.
Clothes, various drinks, plantains and other items were among those destroyed.
According to D02 Joseph Amehere, commander of the Sehwi Wiawso Fire Service, their office received a distress call at around 9 o'clock and sent the water tender and six men to the scene in less than three minutes.
He said the fire was still burning and had reached nearby buildings as well as the site of the incident. However, every effort was made to control the fire before it was extinguished at 23:00.
The fire service and the police will conduct a forensic investigation as part of efforts by the office of the NADMO Director for Sehwi Wiawso to determine the cause of the fire outbreak, Agyeman Bediako said.
To prevent such unfortunate disasters, he has also sent warnings to the owners of the market stalls, advising them to stop overloading the plugs and to use proper electrical materials for their wiring.
