A Gay Cannot be Installed a Development Chief in Any Akan Community – Nana Kwame Edu VI

Any Akan Chief must be without blemish, according to Nana Kwame Edu VI, Tufohen of Oguaa Traditional Area, and as a result, a person with homosexual tendencies cannot be appointed Development Chief.

He defined "without blemish" as being unharmed or undamaged, or perfect in your traditional and spiritual views. Soundness, perfection, or being wholly of one's kind and free from flaw in one's thoughts, actions, or words. These are spelled out in the chieftaincy laws, making it impossible for a gay person to hold the position of Development Chief in Akan society. Nana suggested.

However, Nana questioned: "Is the individual who is allegedly gay a practicing homosexual or a lawyer representing homosexuals, or is he or she just a gay activist?" Does he speak for homosexual people in terms of human rights, or is he attempting to change gay people through advocacy? All of these need to be looked into. The fact remains, nevertheless, that a Development Chief must be gazetted, and before those procedures are finished, a police report on the potential candidate should be requested.

Oguaa Tufohen stated, "If anything unfavorable about the person's character is discovered, s/he cannot be gazetted." "When that occurs, it's like a chief without sandals to wear," the speaker said. Because no CID in Ghana will give a clean sheet to a gay activist who want to be gazetted a chief. Gayism and it’s activities are taboos in our traditions and customs.”

According to Nana Kwame Edu VI, a Development Chief is an honorific title typically bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to the community's development. Such a person is in command, steers the region's development agenda, and can utilize his or her reputation or connections to search out and entice sponsors to help his people advance.

Even if you built us an airport, you cannot be appointed Development Chief if you are gay. According to the Oguaa Tufohen. "What use are structures, edifices, scholarships, etc. when your youth, the next generation of leaders, are ultimately destroyed?" He inquired

The Oguaa Tufohen made these claims during a phone conversation with Benjamin Tetteh Nartey, host of the GBC Radio Central Morning Show, on January 30, 2023, when his opinion was requested regarding Davis Mac Iyalla, a purported gay activist who had just been appointed the Development Chief of the Yamuransa Nkusukum Traditional Area.

A chief must swear the Oath of Allegiance in front of the Chiefs and his people in order to be officially installed. Unfortunately, none of these things could occur because the candidate lost his balance while being carried through the main streets of the town, which in this circumstance never happened. If that didn't happen, Nana Edu implied, his installation isn't finished and he can't be recognized as the area's chief.

When the chief fell from the palanquin, Nana Edu VI explained, "That could have been an accident, but as I know it to be, the ancestors have spoken and given a verdict on the pretended Development Chief."

The Oguaa Tufohen concluded by urging the journalist to travel to Iyalla to verify the truth of the accusations made against him as a gay man or gay activist and to inquire of the Nkusukum Traditional Authorities as to why such a person was appointed Development Chief.

The only way we can resolve the issue moving forward is in that way. These are my opinions, which I've also read in the news," he said in conclusion.

The four stages of life are covered in the book “NSUNSUANSU, ƆNAM OBIARA N’ABOWANO," which was written and published by Nana Kwame Edu VI, who is well known for his steadfast adherence to traditions and customs.
