Abandoned for 3 years: the forgotten tragedy of a man's unburied body

For the past three years, the deceased body of a man, who has been identified as Agya Kofi (pseudonym), has remained abandoned at a mortuary located in Kyekyewere, a town in the Ashanti region.

The man's wife, Akua Addae, who appeared on the current affairs show Obra on Nhyira FM, reported that her husband had been battling with ulcers and convulsions and had been in and out of the hospital until his situation worsened and he eventually passed away.

She recounted that her troubles began when they deposited his remains at the mortuary and all their attempts to raise funds to bury him proved unsuccessful.
Akua disclosed that the only remaining option was to sell a piece of land they owned, but unfortunately, they found out it had already been used as collateral for a loan.

The family managed to raise GHC1,550 and used a portion to print posters for the funeral, which was scheduled for February 2021, and the rest was used to pay the mortuary bills in the first few months of his death.

However, Akua revealed that her in-laws from the northern part of Ghana boycotted the funeral, claiming that her late husband had not given his late father a befitting burial, which is a taboo according to their tradition. She explained that this situation has lingered on for an extended period with no solution in sight, and she fears her husband will not be able to rest in peace.

With tears in her eyes, Akua pleaded with the Obra team and well-meaning Ghanaians to assist her in covering her family's shame.
