Akufo-Addo and NPP acting as if they are on their way out – Spio Gabrah

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Gabrah, a former Trade and Industry Minister as well as Ghana's Ambassador to the US, claims that the present administration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is underperforming because they believe their time in office is coming to an end.

“Yeah! They have been behaving as though they are leaving, Mr. Spio Gabrah said.

The Former Ambassador's Office is responding to the current economic condition the nation is in as well as the various allegations made against the administration by many Ghanaians for their underperformance.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with TV Africa, Mr. Spio Gabrah acknowledged that the NPP's first term, from 2016 to 2020, was fine but highlighted that things got out of hand in their second term.

He claims that some members of the government have chosen not to carry out their duties as required because they believe the Akufo-Addo administration is already complete.

"I believe they made an effort to fulfill as many of those promises as they could. However, it is during this second term that one may argue that because Nana Addo is not running for re-election, certain members of his cabinet might feel that they are no longer under the same obligation to keep their pledges because they are about to leave office. Yes, they have been behaving as if they are leaving, and as a result, Ghanaians are anxiously anticipating the day when the NPP administration ends”, he said.

The majority of people are wondering when this government will end, he continued, “so that Ghana can have a better administration that won't permit the cedi to depreciate, that won't permit inflation to increase by 40% or 50%, and that "won't overborrow so that we are the worst performing country in various indices in many measurements."
