Anybody Who Believes In Mahama’s Campaign Promise Is A “Fool”- Chairman Wontumi

Chairman Wontumi: "Anyone who believes in Mahama's campaign promise is a fool"

Anyone who believes in a campaign promise made by former President John Mahama is a "fool", according to Mr Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.

His comments follow an abrupt U-turn by the former president, who said it was ridiculous for Ghanaians to want him to return the ex-gratia payment after he said he would abolish the practice if given the chance to govern again.

In an interview with Wontumionline.com, the NPP Chairman, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, claimed Mr Mahama was tarnishing his already "rotten reputation" by not being clear about his position on the payment of ex-gratia.

"He is a disgusting man who has prevented his wife from handing over the money she is illegally holding to the treasury. When he talks about abolishing ex-gratia payments, how can anyone trust such a shady character? He must stop accepting ex-gratia payments from the government and order them to be stopped if he wants to gain credibility.

"With his latest comment that he is not prepared to pay back all the ex-gratia he has received, it means that anyone who believes in any of Mahama's promises is a fool," Chairman Wontumi said.

John Dramani Mahama, a former president, has questioned the rationale behind calls for him to return his ex-gratia after he promised to abolish the current remuneration system for Article 71 office holders if he wins re-election.

Mr Mahama says he finds it very absurd that his detractors, including some individuals with legal backgrounds, are calling for such a retroactive move which is against the constitution.
