Armed robbers snatch Toyota Hilux pickup at gunpoint In Tamale

Around the Tamale Islamic Senior High School in Tamale on Thursday, armed thieves stole an ash grey Toyota Hilux pickup with the license plate number GS 2525-22.

The owner said that when he got home from a trip, his brother came to open the gate for him.

He said that as he was driving in, he saw two unidentified gunmen lead his brother into the compound and tell him to lie down.

The terrified car owner said that he and his brother had to lay on the ground while the thieves stole their phones and locked them up with other members of their family.

He said that the thieves then left in a car. Since then, the police have been told about it.

This is not the first time that armed men in the area have stolen a car. Since 2021, four cars, including Vice Chair of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sofo Azoka's V8, have been stolen at gunpoint in that neighborhood.

Two of the cars were found by a group of police officers from the Northern Region, the Upper East Region, and Burkina Faso who worked together.

JoyNews heard that the cars are usually stolen in Tamale, sent to Bolgatanga, and then taken to Burkina Faso, where they are in high demand.
