Asiedu Nketia To Resign?

Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo, who is in charge of the National Media Commission (NMC), has asked Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who is the new head of the National Democratic Commission (NDC), to quit his job on the Parliamentary Service board.

He said that the job requires the highest level of neutrality, which he doesn't think a leader of a political party can have.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia beat out the current NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, for the job over the weekend. He has been on the board since 2021.

He and Abraham Ossei Aidoo, a former member of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), were put on the Board by the Speaker of Parliament.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is the leader of the majority, Haruna Iddrisu is the leader of the minority, and Cyril Nsiah is the clerk of parliament. The Speaker is in the chair.

But Mr. Ayeboafo says that it is against the law for the leader of a political party to give advice to the Speaker.

He said that the late Peter Ala Adjetey was taken off the Commission because he was the National Chairman of the NPP.

The former head of the government newspaper Daily Graphic said that the constitution was changed so that Mr. Ala Adjetey couldn't stay on the Commission.

"So, if someone who holds a political office can't be on the Commission, how can the leader of a political party give advice to the Speaker, who is supposed to be the most objective and neutral person?"
