According to the West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), 23 people, including a 12-year-old, were killed in skirmishes in Bawku between 31 January and 10 February this year.
In a status report on Bawku, the network warned that the violence was opening the door for extremist and terrorist infiltration into Ghana.
The Network believes that this situation could lead to intense cross-border violence by extremists along Ghana's northern border with Burkina Faso.
Earlier today, three drivers transporting tomatoes and peppers from Bawku to Accra were reportedly shot dead and many others injured.
Unknown assailants had earlier opened fire on the lorries at a location 20 kilometres outside the town.
Several of the injured are being treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Survivors of Tuesday's shooting narrated their ordeal to LuvNews as they displayed their bullet-riddled vehicles.
