Before & After: Current State Of River Ankobra

The work of the Galamasey Task Force, set up to combat illegal mining, has made a significant difference to the Ankobra River.

One of Ghana's largest waterways, the Ankobra River, has deteriorated as a result of illegal mining activities.

The Ankobra River is located at Wassa Jukwaa Heman in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region.

On Thursday, 16 February 2023, a delegation led by the Member of Parliament for the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, George Mireku Duker, inspected the current state of the Ankobra River, one of the major rivers severely affected by illegal mining.

The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency Member of Parliament, George Mireku Duker, says the Ankobra River is now much less turbulent than it was a few months ago.

He goes on to commend all regional stakeholders for helping to achieve this important milestone, which must be sustained.
