The Ghana Individual Bondholders Forum and the Individual Bondholders Association of Ghana, operating as a coalition, have written a petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to voice their grievances about the non-payment of matured bonds that were not tendered under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
The coalition expressed disappointment that, despite several assurances by the government, they had not received payment for the matured bonds, which amounted to 1 billion cedis. The coalition has made four previous requests to the Minister of Finance for a payment schedule, but received no response.
The coalition's members, including pensioners, rely on these funds for essential needs, such as medication, education, and the welfare of their families.
The coalition acknowledged the government's fiscal difficulties and offered cooperation on a mutually beneficial payment plan, but they were disappointed with the Finance Ministry's unresponsive conduct, which they believed represented a breach of trust between the government and its citizens.
The coalition urged President Akufo-Addo to take swift and necessary measures to resolve this issue and honour his commitment to paying the individual old bondholders.
