Catherine Afeku blasts Bawumia’s handlers for vehicle display amidst hardships

Former Minister of Tourism, Catherine Afeku, expressed her frustration towards the team responsible for managing Ghana's Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. She voiced her concerns about the recent release of videos and pictures featuring branded vehicles associated with the Vice President, believing that it could harm his reputation. Afeku criticized the timing of the vehicles' appearance, especially considering the ongoing discussions about the country's hardships, and viewed it as a display of insensitivity on Dr Bawumia's part. Disappointed, she stated, "I would have expected better from them."

Afeku emphasized the sensitivity of the current situation, particularly with the ongoing IMF board meetings, and felt that the Vice President's handlers had not handled the situation well, given the economic challenges faced by the people.

While recognizing the need for political logistics, Afeku suggested that the display of the vehicles could have been organized discreetly during the nighttime instead of in broad daylight. She criticized the optics, explaining, "The situation we are in now is that pensioners are picketing at the Finance Ministry, and if the second gentleman... drives through town in broad daylight, where there are angry people around, that will go against the party, and not just the candidate."

According to Madam Afeku, the handlers had made a mistake considering the current mood of the people. She humbly stated, "I would say that the handlers goofed because of the situation we are in; the people are not in the mood to see party paraphernalia now."

In conclusion, Catherine Afeku expressed her disappointment with the handlers of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for releasing videos and pictures featuring branded vehicles. She believed that the timing and public display of the vehicles were insensitive, given the country's hardships. Afeku emphasized the need for discretion and recognized the mood of the people, suggesting that the handlers could have arranged the display during the nighttime. She felt that the handlers had made a mistake and that it would reflect poorly on the party in the current situation.
