Check Out MUSIGA’s Statement On Ambolley And KOD Beef

The Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has issued a statement in response to the recent social media feud between veteran Highlife artist, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, and media personality, Kofi Otchere-Darko (KOD).

The disagreement stemmed from an interview Ambolley gave in March 2023, in which he expressed concern that Ghana’s indigenous Highlife music has been sidelined by the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards in favor of foreign genres such as Reggae/Dancehall.

KOD dismissed Ambolley’s comments as “nonsense,” and argued that Highlife musicians have failed to adapt to changing times and are blaming the awards scheme for their lack of success.

MUSIGA’s Acting President, Bessa Simons, urged fans to refrain from encouraging the feud, while also expressing confidence that the awards scheme and other organizations have the best interests of the Ghanaian music industry, and Highlife music in particular, at heart.
