Check Out Unbelievable Cost of Growing and Maintaining My Long Nails

Everyone from Cardi B to Khloe Kardashian seems to love the look of long nails. But one New York woman is way ahead of the game, having grown her nails for 40 years.

Queen, whose real name is LaRue Drummond, was inspired to grow her nails as a child. Drummond approached a stranger in the supermarket who had very long nails and asked for advice.

Despite having a bad habit of biting her nails, Drummond was determined to get the same look.

"When I was young, I used to bite my cuticles so hard they would bleed. But I was able to stop because I was determined and my family helped me," she said.

Drummond started taking very good care of her nails, letting them grow out and getting regular manicures. She can't imagine life without her 22-inch nails, which have cost her $12,327 to maintain over the past 40 years.

She even refers to them as her "babies", and the longest is called "Miss Attitude".

Drummond's nail technician, Maria Ortiz, has been her saving grace. She calls Ortiz "a very important part of my nail growing journey".



"She goes above and beyond with the designs and colours. Because it takes about eight hours, she books me for the whole day and makes sure I'm the only client," Drummond said.




She said Maria was "the queen diva of nail art".



Drummond would never change her nails, even though they are always dirty and people look at her funny when she does.



"It's who I am and I'm not embarrassed by it," she said. "I would feel sad if I broke a nail that couldn't be fixed," she said.

The city girl also said that her nails don't get in the way of her daily life. Drummond works as a babysitter when she is not busy keeping her nails healthy and moist. She is careful not to scratch the children.

She has got used to using her phone and tying her shoes with long nails, and says she wants to keep growing them. But the beauty icon has a long way to go before she breaks the record.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, a woman from Minnesota once grew her nails to just over 28 feet long.
