Court convicts Pastor for stealing kente cloth, rice at Assin Atonsu

Kwaku Adinkrah, 43, is the pastor of the Divine Favour Ministry Church in Asante Bekwai in the Ashanti Region. He was found guilty of stealing items worth 2,500.00 from his girlfriend at Assin Atonsu and was sentenced to pay a fine of 3,600 or spend a year in jail.

Miss. Sophia Yeboah, the girlfriend, is a hairdresser and a complainant in the case. She lives in Atonsu, which is in the Assin Fosu Municipality in the Central Region.

The Assin Fosu District Court, led by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, charged the convict with stealing, which is against section 124 (1) of the Criminal and Other Offenses Act 29. (60).

He admitted to the crime and was sentenced because of that.

Inspector Benjamin Doe-Kuwornu, the prosecutor, said that the complainant went to see her parents in Kumasi on November 8, 2022, and met the convict on the way back in a car going to Assin Fosu.

The convict asked the complainant out on a date, and she said yes. They then exchanged phone numbers.

The prisoner went to the complainant's home and place of work, and the two of them started living together as lovers.

The convict told the complainant that he had a bad dream about where she worked while he was there.

Later, he asked the complainant to buy him a spiritual oil so he could do some rituals that would bring more customers to the complainant's business.

On Saturday, November 26, 2022, while they were at the complainant's shop, the convict told her lover that he was going to town.

The convict secretly took one of the complainant's keys, went home, and stole five wax print cloths, one Kente cloth, three new towels, a shoppingmode iPhone 6 Plus, a home theater system, a standing fan, a bag of 5 kg rice, and 5 sachets of spaghetti worth GH2,500.00. He then left for Bekwai.

When the complainant got home, she found that the items had been stolen, and when she talked to the convict about it, he admitted that he was the one who took the items.

A friend of the complainant saw the convict in town on Saturday, December 3, 2022, around 14:00. He told her, and the two of them filed a police report, which led to his arrest.

During their investigation, the police took away from him the Kente cloth, home theater system, standing fan, and shoppingmode iPhone 6 Plus.

The convicted person told the court that he couldn't get back the 5kg of rice and the sachets of spaghetti because his immediate family had already eaten it.

So, he asked the court to take it easy on him.
