Court restrains Empire Cement from operations

Empire Cement is prohibited from starting operations in any region of the nation.

Empire Cement is not allowed to continue producing cement at its factory in McCarthy Hill or anywhere else, according to the Accra High Court.

The court, presided over by Justice William Boampong, issued an order on Monday morning (November 21, 2022) imposing an injunction on the corporation that would be in effect until the outcome of a lawsuit brought by the McCarthy Hill Residents Association.

After upholding the association's interlocutory application, Justice Boampong issued the decision.

Empire Cement was unable to demonstrate to the court that it had the necessary permit from the Environmental Protection Agency.
