According to Theresah, her daughter, Joyce Amoabeng, also known as Marfowaa, sneaked into her bedroom late at night, around 10:30 pm, and attempted to strangle her by gripping her neck tightly while covering her mouth and nose in an attempt to suffocate her.

In her desperate struggle for survival, Theresah tried to call out for help, but Joyce forcefully pulled her down and even attempted to twist her neck. However, their violent scuffle caught the attention of a passerby and a teenage boy who were nearby. Curiosity piqued, they rushed into the room, only to find a woman wearing a face mask and jalabia engaged in a fierce struggle with the elderly victim.

The unexpected intervention startled Joyce, forcing her to flee from the scene. During her hasty escape, her hooded jalabia slipped off her head, revealing her true identity as the victim's biological daughter, despite her earlier claims of traveling to Accra. This revelation left the witnesses astounded and bewildered.

Following the incident, Theresah expressed her inability to sleep peacefully, understandably traumatized by the horrifying encounter. Furthermore, reports suggest that the authorities discovered a small bag belonging to Joyce, which contained a medical bandage, a syringe, and nyanya leaves. It is alleged that these items were intended for use in performing rituals on the victim.
