Don’t Give Up: How banker accused of stealing GHC1.2 million was a TikTok motivational guru

Emmanuel Sakyi Afriyie, a 25-year-old facing charges of theft and conspiracy to steal GHC 1.2 million from depositors' funds, managed to find time amidst his fraudulent activities to motivate people on social media platforms, particularly TikTok.

Working on a contract with the bank, Afriyie exploited the bank's IT systems, enabling him to steal money from multiple accounts by transferring the funds to mobile money accounts belonging to his accomplices. Despite his illegal actions, he consistently shared inspiring messages to encourage individuals to pursue their dreams.

In one of his TikTok videos, Afriyie emphasized the importance of perseverance, urging viewers not to give up and to remember the reasons they started their endeavors. He advised against allowing circumstances to force them to abandon something they had invested significant effort into, encouraging them to give themselves another day and another chance to succeed.

Furthermore, Afriyie criticized those who engaged in government theft, even as the Auditor General worked diligently to recover misappropriated funds.

In conclusion, despite his criminal actions, Emmanuel Sakyi Afriyie found a way to spread motivational messages on social media. His paradoxical behavior serves as a reminder that individuals can possess both positive and negative traits, highlighting the complexity of human nature.
