Don't go back to sleep after Friday…

The Institute for Energy (IES) has urged the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) not to take a nap in debt collection as the company's revenue exercise concludes on Friday, April 21.

The ECG has managed to recoup over GH¢2 billion out of the GH¢5.7 billion owed to them during the one-month-long revenue mobilization exercise, and they plan to outsource the collection to private debt collectors once it concludes.

However, the IES Research and Policy Analyst, Adam Yakubu, has cautioned that the ECG may slack off again after the exercise ends.

To avoid this, he has recommended making the exercise a regular occurrence and educating Ghanaians on the importance of paying their debts.

Yakubu believes that the ECG should undertake revenue mobilization every month to emphasize how crucial the issue is. He has also called on the ECG to create awareness among Ghanaians about paying their debts to reduce the pressure when it comes to debt collection.
