Drama ensued when two brothers allegedly dug up a grave in Rushinga to retrieve US$300 they believed was buried with the deceased.
Ranganai Magara (47) and Owen Magara (45) are accused of interfering with a grave, according to Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe.
The brothers were burying Ranganai's 19-year-old son, who died by suicide on 23 September last year.
According to legend, the son's ghost possessed Owen and revealed that he had been buried with $300.
The two decided to apply for permission to exhume the grave. But the headman of Mukuyu village, Trust Kaimba, 38, refused, saying he did not have the authority to do so.
He said.
Later, the two organised some of their family members and illegally exhumed the grave, but were unable to raise any money.
