Driver jailed for stealing motorbike from accident scene

A 25-year-old man named Emmanuel Kye has been sentenced to two years in jail by an Adentan Circuit Court after he stole a motorbike from an accident scene. The incident occurred when Kye stopped to help clear the road after the motorbike was involved in a collision with a saloon car near the Mother Love Hospital at Adentan-Mile 11.

The victim, Clement Kojo, borrowed the motorbike from a friend in Dodowa to attend a church programme in Pokuase. Unfortunately, he was involved in a head-on collision and ended up in a gutter, unconscious.

Kye and the saloon car driver helped take Kojo to a nearby hospital for medical care. However, Kye later returned to the scene and stole the motorbike, claiming he was a relative of the accident victim who had been sent to collect the bike.

Police intelligence eventually led to Kye's arrest, and during interrogation, he confessed to stealing and selling the motorbike to someone called Nana at Madina, Zongo Junction for GH¢2,400. However, he could not lead the police to Nana.

Kye pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and begged the judge for mercy, but he was still convicted to two years in prison. The incident serves as a reminder that stealing is never the right thing to do, especially in situations where people are already suffering.
