Drivers React To Bawumia’s Tap and Go System for Public and Private Transport Sectors

Chairman Nii Ashie, the leader of the Circle Taxi Association, has expressed skepticism towards Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia's pledge to provide a digital service for taxi drivers. He believes that it is just another example of empty political rhetoric and that drivers have suffered greatly under the current government despite its promises during election campaigns. Nii Ashie claims that the cost of car parts, oils, and fuel have risen alarmingly, making life difficult for drivers. He also pointed out that the government promised to provide cars to drivers but failed to do so.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia has revealed plans to connect commercial taxi drivers in the Greater Accra Region to a digital system similar to those used by Uber and Bolt. He said that this would allow the public to access their services from any location in the region, and the transport sectors will soon transition to a Tap and Go system by the end of the year.

While Dr. Bawumia's plans sound promising, Chairman Nii Ashie's skepticism highlights the need for the government to follow through on its promises and provide tangible benefits for drivers. The rising cost of essential car items such as parts, oils, and fuel is a major issue that needs to be addressed. Only by taking concrete actions can the government win the trust of the people and help improve the lives of taxi drivers and other citizens.
