E/R: Fatal Accident As Bus Carrying 22 Passengers Crash Into A River

After the bus fell into a river at the Suhum-Apeatu stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway, 22 people were saved from dying.

The S 2M Express Bus with the license plate number GT 8177-21 was going from Kumasi to Accra when a Toyota sedan with the license plate number GS 1311-17 made a sudden U-turn onto the road and hit it from the side.

The driver of the speeding bus lost control of the steering wheel and drove off the road and into the river.

People who saw the accident helped the driver and passengers get out of the sinking car and to safety.

The people on the bus got minor injuries.

Even though no one was seriously hurt, 22 people, including the bus driver, got small bruises. The Passengers were thankful and felt lucky.

An eyewitness who ran to the scene of the accident yesterday saw that the salon car tried to make a U-turn without looking at either side of the road. At the same time, the S2M Express bus with people on board was coming the other way, and the driver of the private car who was trying to avoid the bus lost control of the steering wheel and crashed.

Kofi Michael, a reporter who went to the scene, said, "Some of the victims thanked the bus driver for saving their lives, even though they thought he was going at top speed. He did well to avoid the salon car, which was making a quick U-turn in the middle of the highway."

He said, "A very angry passenger at the time of this interview said that the salon car driver was lucky to be old." He said that some of them ran to the car to attack the driver for being so unruly and careless, but when they got there, they saw that it was an old man dressed in a royal outfit. The man, who wore traditional clothes and royal sandals, is said to have caused an accident. He also asked, "How can anyone drive in that outfit and those sandals?"

He said that at the time of the accident, it was seen that the salon car didn't have insurance or a road-worthiness certificate.

Suhum Police are looking into what caused the accident.
