Ex-Prison Officer nearly lynched for stealing cooking utensils

A man formerly employed as a Prison Officer has been apprehended and almost lynched in Abura Dunkwa, located in the Central Region, on charges of stealing cooking utensils and building materials. The suspect, who had been dismissed from the Prisons Service for alleged criminal misconduct, was caught on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at approximately 5:00 pm after stealing a sack full of cooking utensils. Prior to that, he had also stolen building materials from a nearby shop and stored them elsewhere. Following his arrest, he led the community members to the place where he had hidden the building materials and surrendered them.

According to reports, the ex-convict was stripped naked, beaten, and almost killed by the enraged residents. Fortunately, the police arrived on time and saved his life. He was subsequently taken to the Abura Dunkwa Police station to assist with the investigation. The recovered materials were then returned to their rightful owners.

The residents of the community have expressed their dissatisfaction with the increasing rate of theft in the area and have vowed to deal severely with anyone caught in the act.
