Exclusive Hospital and Stress-Relief Facilities: MP Urges Healthcare and Recreation Center for Parliamentarian

Henry Quartey, the MP for Ayawaso Central, has suggested that a hospital should be built to specifically cater to the healthcare needs of legislators.

He believes that the pressure that comes with being an MP requires dedicated medical practitioners to ensure their well-being. Quartey made this appeal during his turn to mourn the late Kumawu MP, Philip Basoah, on the floor of Parliament on March 31, 2023.

He noted that the pressures from Basoah's constituents may have contributed to his untimely death. As a result, Quartey believes that it is essential for MPs to have access to specialized medical facilities.

He suggested that Parliament, as an arm of government, should consider building a hospital exclusively for MPs, the Speaker, and all those who facilitate parliamentary practices.

Quartey also requested the establishment of a private recreational facility for MPs to ease their stress.

He argued that he is unable to park at any ordinary recreational facility due to fear of being photographed and having his images circulated in the media. He believes that both a recreational area and a medical facility would significantly help MPs deal with the stress of their job.

Although Quartey acknowledges that building a hospital specifically for MPs may sound discriminatory, he feels that it is essential given the unique pressures and demands of the job.

He expressed his condolences to Basoah's family and hopes that his appeal for a medical facility and recreational area for MPs will be considered.
