First UG Female Finance Professor Shares Shocking Heartbreaking Story

The first woman to teach finance at the University of Ghana has said that every country should be proud of how well it educates its children.

Prof. Vera Fiador says that taking away a child's right to go to school is the worst thing that can happen to him or her.

Prof. Fiador told Roselyn Felli on Prime Morning on Wednesday that she grew up in a place where it was rare for girls to go to school.

When people found out she went to school, they were surprised and began to ask questions.

"I've always loved school, and when I was a kid, being told not to go to school was the worst punishment I could get," she said.

The Finance Professor said that she loved school and learned just to eat up as much information as she could.

"When I was in school, I noticed that my classmates learned because they had to. I, on the other hand, learned because I love to read, get new ideas, try things out here and there, and all that. So usually, the TV is on while I'm reading a book." So said Prof. Fiador.

The academic went on to say that she grew up in Jamestown and that back then, if you were a girl and hadn't given birth by age 15, you were considered barren. So, if a girl at that age went to school, she was teased that she was going to school because she couldn't have children and didn't want that to be known.

She said that when she was younger, she wanted to be a doctor and was inspired by the young doctors she saw on her way home from school every day. However, she ended up studying General Arts in high school and pursuing French, which she eventually grew to love.

Some people say that only "smart" people go to business school, which makes it interesting that the professor said he dropped French classes in college and switched to business classes instead.

"At the time, business, law, and economics were considered the "sassy" social science courses," she said.

She said that this kind of buzz can sometimes lead people to take classes just to show off, even if it's not their calling. As a result, these people don't do as well as they could have.

Professor Fiador went on to say that she went to business school to study banking and finance, which gave her the chance to combine the arts and sciences she loved. Even though her parents would have liked her to study marketing, she chose to do this. Prof. Fiador says that she got a first-class grade in the end because she was really interested in banking and finance.

She thinks that people should choose their careers or fields of study based on what they are passionate about rather than how much money they can make. This is because it is better to do something well, which will naturally bring money in the long run.

The professor said, "Money was never why I loved what I did. It was about making myself happy and doing something I was good at. Those things were what kept me going. So I think that if you try to be the best, money will usually follow you."
