According to a report by The Independent Ghana, the headmaster of Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale has been put on suspension by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for converting toilet cubicles into dormitories for students. The Senior Housemaster has also been suspended while the Regional Director of Education investigates the matter.
The GES has instructed the Director to provide their findings within two weeks. The school claimed that they did this to address accommodation challenges, but the GES has disputed this, stating that the school has excess capacity to house more students.
The GES has described the situation as "unacceptable, disturbing, and unfortunate" and has promised to investigate and ensure the safety of all students. The videos of the nondisinfected washrooms being converted into dormitories surfaced on social media earlier this week.
