Gayright activist’s partner confesses to killing and disposing his body over allegations that he cheated on him

Police in Kenya have arrested Jackton Odhiambo and said that he is the main suspect in the death of Edwin Chiloba, an activist for LGBTQ rights.

Odhiambo, who was dating the LGBTQ activist, admitted to killing him and leaving his body on the side of the road because he thought the activist had cheated on him.

In the investigation into the brutal killing of Edwin Kiprotich Kiptoo, also known as Chiloba, three more people were arrested as suspects. Police say that there are now four people in custody.

The three were arrested because they helped move a metal box that was used to hide Chiloba's body.

Police say that two of the three are under 18 years old.

A police spokeswoman named Resla Onyango said that detectives have also taken custody of the car that was used to dump the body on the road. She also said that one of the ideas they are looking into right now is the love triangle.

The main suspect in the murder of 24-year-old fashionista Jackton Odhiambo said that he killed the model because he thought that the model had cheated on him.

Police say that Jackton and his two friends helped him kill the man. The suspect said he killed Chiloba to get back at him for lying to him.

Jackton, who had lived with the victim in Eldoret for a year, was arrested on January 6 as the main suspect in the murder. They were husband and wife and lived together.

Alex Nyamweya, who takes care of Chiloba, said that Jackton called him on January 4 from Chiloba's phone to tell him he was leaving the house they shared.

Police said that Jackton moved out of the house right away.

Police said that Jackton told curious neighbors who had noticed a bad smell coming from a house where Chiloba lived with him and two others that it was a dead rat and that he was trying to get rid of it.

Peter Kimulwo, the head of the DCI in Uasin Gishu county, said, "He told the neighbors that the smell was coming from a dead rat when they asked what it was."

The body was dumped near Kipkaren in Halingham.

A day earlier, Jackton was seen with the metal box by his neighbors. Kimulwo said that based on what they know so far, the person who died seemed to have been strangled and had one eye gouged out.

Kimulwo said that a chief told the police that on January 3, 2023, a metal box was left by the side of the road in the Kipkaren area.

In the metal box, residents found the dead body of an adult wrapped in a woman's dress.

Kimulwo said that on New Year's Eve, Chiloba and his friends went to the Tamasha club and came home around 3 a.m.

When they got there, neighbors could hear noise and cries, which stopped a few minutes later. On January 3, neighbors saw two people loading a metal box into a car. They then left.

"We think the noise the neighbors heard earlier was when the dead person was killed," Kimulwo said.

He said the suspect and the person who died were living together. He had come from Nairobi to celebrate the new year.

At the morgue in Eldoret's Moi Referral Hospital, his family was able to positively identify his body.

Melvin, his sister, told the story of her last moments with Chiloba, whom she had met at Eldoret's Tamasha place for New Year's celebrations.

Melvin works at Tamasha. He says Chiloba came in around 10 p.m. with a friend she didn't know.

"I saw him around 1 am after the New Year's fireworks, and he told me goodbye and that he would miss me," she told reporters.
