Ghanaian Man Burnt To Death In House Fire

A house fire in Akyem Asuboa, in the Eastern Region, destroyed a man's home on Tuesday night. The man, who was probably in his 70s, died in the fire.

Around midnight, the fire broke out.

Andrews Sir Doe, an assembly member for Asuboa Salam, told Starr News that a man named Yaw Donkor was sleeping in the room when the fire broke out.

But residents and fire crews put out the fire and saved four other people who were in nearby rooms.

"The fire started in the middle of the night. No one knows what caused the fire, but the house is wired for electricity.

"In fact, the man was alone in the house when it caught on fire, so he died. I tried hard to put out the fire before calling the fire department for help. They broke into other rooms to save four more people, some of whom were children.

The burned body has been wrapped in cloth and taken to the morgue to be kept safe until more is known.

In the first three months of the year, there were 279 fires in the Eastern Region. The number included 167 bushfires and 112 fires in people's homes.
