Gold Mafia: Ignore the spurious allegations - Akufo-Addo’s lawyer 

The legal counsel of President Akufo-Addo has urged the public to ignore the accusations made against the President in Al Jazeera’s Gold Mafia documentary.

Mr. Kow Essuman clarified that the President has not been in private practice since 2000, and his law firm has not acted as lawyers for Alistair Mathias or Guldrest, as alleged by the gold trader. Mr. Essuman further emphasized that the President does not know the gold trader or his associates, and the claims made against him are baseless.

The Gold Mafia documentary exposed a gold smuggling and money laundering syndicate that operates in several countries, including Ghana.

Alistair Mathias, who was featured in the documentary, claimed that he has been smuggling $40 million worth of gold from Ghana monthly and referred to President Akufo-Addo as his friend and former lawyer. However, the legal counsel of the President has categorically denied these allegations and urged the public not to give them any credence.
