Heartbreaking Tragedy: Farmer Remanded for Girlfriend's Fatal Stabbing

In a recent incident in Koforidua, a 26-year-old farmer named Godwin Darko has been remanded into police custody after reporting himself to the police for killing his girlfriend, Felicia Abena Oparebea. The tragic incident occurred at Trom Junction 5, a suburb of Koforidua over the weekend. The court has ordered Darko to reappear on July 4, 2023.

According to the prosecution, Darko and Oparebea had been in a relationship for six months. On Saturday, a heated argument broke out between them regarding an aborted pregnancy. Regrettably, Darko allegedly stabbed Oparebea multiple times in the neck, causing her immediate death.

After fleeing from the crime scene, Darko sought solace in his mother, who also happens to be the Queen mother of Suhum Nifa Ankobea. His mother, understanding the gravity of the situation, willingly accompanied him to the police station where he turned himself in.

During the court proceedings, Police Prosecutor Sergeant George Defia informed the court that the murder weapon and the keys used by Darko are yet to be found. He requested the court not to allow Darko to enter a plea, emphasizing the ongoing investigations and the commitment of the police force to uncovering the recent spousal murders in the Eastern Region.

The presiding judge, Her Honour Nana Ama Dabbah Fynn, accepted the prosecution's request and charged the police to conduct a swift, effective, and efficient investigation. The court stressed that any unnecessary delays would not be tolerated.

Nana Dede Klottey, the Suhum Nifa Ankobea Hemaa and Darko's mother, spoke to the media and appealed for calm and understanding between the two families. She requested that they work together to ensure a smooth burial process for the deceased.

In conclusion, this unfortunate incident has led to the remanding of Godwin Darko, who voluntarily surrendered to the police after allegedly killing his girlfriend. The court has urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation promptly, while the families involved have appealed for peace and cooperation during the funeral arrangements for the deceased.
