Adewale Alebiosu, a popular Nollywood actor who is known for playing a Babalawo or Ife priest in Yoruba movies, said that reciting some incantations in movies changed him in real life.
Alebiosu told BBC Yoruba, "I had no idea that the spells I was reciting had so much more to them." I thought I was just saying my lines. I didn't know that there would be consequences. When I go home after a show, I see strange things while I sleep. Some of them turn into goats and start biting me."
Alebiosu told the next generation that if they wanted to be Babalawos, they should be very careful and ready to pray. He said that the job needs a lot of safety precautions.
"I'm telling them this to warn them so they don't live their lives in regret or fail," he said.
