I Believe JM Took In “Something” Before Describing Kweku Yeboah And Kpebu As “Silly”- Ishaq Kyei-Brobbey

A lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University (KSTU), Mr Ishaq Kyei-Brobbey, has stated that he believes former President John Dramani Mahama was under the influence of alcohol before he called those calling for him to return his ex-gratia "silly".

The former president has received repeated calls to return all the ex-gratia payments he received before telling Ghanaians that he would stop paying them if he returned to power.

The request has infuriated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2020 presidential candidate, who has described some prominent personalities as making absurd statements for spearheading the call for him to set an example.

On March 4, 2024, Mr Mahama said, "I have categorically said that when we come into office, we will abolish ex gratia for executives. The president is responsible for the executive, so he can cancel it for the executives. But then you have to persuade the other arms of government to see that there is no justice in continuing to pay ourselves ex gratia when the ordinary worker is not getting it because you are the leaders, you have to set the example. Why should we continue to accept ex gratia payments when the rest of the public and civil services don't, when the economy is in trouble? So I have made it very clear that we will stop the ex gratia.”

In response, a lawyer who should know better said, "Then I should refund all the ex-gratia we have taken before to show Ghanaians that we are serious about stopping it. He doesn't even know the principle in our constitution that says if you make a law today, it doesn't affect what happened in the past. What he is saying is a bit silly.

But reacting to the news on the Wontumi Morning Show, Mr Ishaq Kyei-Brobbey claimed: "I think he (Mahama) knew he was going to answer them, so in the morning he took something in before he called them silly.
