I Smuggled Drugs For My Best Friend In Ghana And I Regretted It After This Happened

Beatrice Njeri from Nairobi tells the painful story of how she agreed to help her best friend in Ghana smuggle drugs because he offered to pay her a lot of money. She didn't know at the time that she would regret it.

Beatrice, who was born and raised in Nairobi, says that after she finished high school, she moved to Turkey to work as a housekeeper. She has been working there as a housekeeper for three years, and she also has a job teaching kindergarten.

She met a young man while she was working as a teacher, and they got married. They were lucky enough to have two kids, and they helped each other pay bills. She also had a friend from Ghana who worked at the same school where she did.

One holiday, her friend asked her to join her on a two-week trip to Ghana before the next school year started. She said yes, said goodbye to her family, and went to Ghana.

She said that her best friend let her stay with her family for two weeks when they visited. When it was time for her to go back to Turkey, her friend asked her to bring some drugs to her husband and pay her well.

She said that at first she wasn't sure, but after a lot of convincing, she agreed. She put the drugs in her bag with the rest of her stuff and went to the airport. As she was being checked in to the plane, the police saw that she had drugs on her.

"At the airport, the police found out that I was carrying drugs in my bag." She spoke.

She was stopped, and the police took her to the station to question her. She tried to call the friend who gave her the drugs, but the friend never picked up the phone. She was brought to court a few days later. After a few months of court sessions, she was found guilty and sentenced to ten years in prison.

She said that her friend left her there, so she took different classes to keep herself busy in prison. There, life was hard, and she had to deal with problems like not being able to speak the language and being scared by other prisoners.

She was let out of jail after her ten-year sentence was up. When she went back to Kenya, she found out that her husband had married someone else, but she was able to see her kids again. She also decided to join an organization that helps people who have been in prison learn how to become good citizens again.
