"I Was 1cm Away from Knife": How I Escaped Death - Woman Narrates

Diana Injehu Egesa, who is 25 years old, always has a big smile on her face. It's a mask that hides what's really going on.

That's because she's been going to therapy and trying to put her broken pieces back together after a love that went bad in ways she never thought it would.

Love was great:

She told Hillary Lisimba of TUKO.co.ke that it all started in 2016 when she met a fellow class representative at the University of Nairobi Business School and fell in love with him. Two souls from different places had ended up on the same path, sharing the same interests and falling in love with each other.

In 2018, Diana found out she was pregnant, which was scary but made her think it would make her relationship stronger. "He was very happy. I wasn't really, mostly because I was still in third grade and getting ready to go to fourth, and also because my dad was in the hospital. I didn't know how my family would feel about the whole thing "what she said.

Stood by her while she gave birth:

In the first few months, everything went as planned, and she even told her family about the man because he seemed serious. "He really pushed for a formal introduction, and stupidly, I went along with it. After I met my dad, I was called home, where my family told me to be careful "she thought back. In 2019, when she gave birth, the man was there with her, which made her even more sure that they were meant to be together forever. Even though he talked in a subtle way about how "married women should act," she didn't think there was anything wrong with him at the time.

"In his plan, that meant not posting often on social media and not hanging out with friends who haven't gotten married yet. Lol, "She laughs when she thinks of it.

Cracks started to appear:

During the pandemic in 2020, things started to go wrong. They went to his parents' house to give their son, Ethan, to them, but they were stuck there because of the lockdown. While she was there, the government made it easier to travel, and she said she wanted to go home to Busia for her birthday. "His first comment was that I couldn't give COVID-19 to his child because my family missed me. If they care about me, they should realize that staying in Kisii is good for me "she told me. Diana went ahead and traveled, which set off a series of events that would soon get out of hand and bring an end to their once-happy marriage.

False claims began to be made about her inheritance.

Her son's father started saying that unknown people were following him, and then he gave her an order that she had to give him back right away. From then on, they had fight after fight, to the point where the lover said that her family was against him. This situation got worse when Diana's family planned to go to Mombasa every year at a time when the man was supposed to be sick and wanted Diana to stay home. "He told me it was time for me to decide if I wanted to get married or not because, since we started living together, I hadn't shown a single trait of a wife," she said. Diana says that even though she spent the holiday with her family, she didn't enjoy it because she felt stressed out, exhausted, and defeated.

There were allegations of an extramarital affair:

Diana had a classmate who lived nearby and would drop her off at home after school. She didn't know that her house help told her husband about it.

She also got a job with an NGO around the same time. This job required her to travel a lot, which, as she would learn, made him even more angry. Diana was sleeping on a night that seemed like any other when she heard her now-ex-boyfriend yelling as he came toward her. He was angry and asked, "How good can he be if you can't make sacrifices so your son can have a whole family?"

Diana says, "I stayed for my kids”:

Before she knew it, the man had jumped on her and started punching and kicking her while accusing her of carrying another man's baby, which also surprised her. "He thought I was seeing a classmate who used to drive me home from school. In fact, he still does, "Diana says that she was not having an affair and swore to it. What happened next was chaos, and the man she thought loved her deeply put her through a session she will never forget.

Diana says that her baby was one of the reasons she stayed in the situation, which is a mistake that many women make when they are in a bad relationship. "I had both of my parents when I was growing up, so it's the least I could do for him. But it seems that the Heavens had other ideas, "she told me.

The very last nail:

Diana says she knew she couldn't go back in June 2022, when her ex-boyfriend texted her sweet things and asked her out to dinner, but she said no. On days when he would stop talking, he called her names and said she left because of him. "He then sent me photos of the girls he's been sleeping with since he moved out of the house in May. At that point, I knew he didn't deserve anything, not even his own son "she said the end.

Get married in a small, close-knit ceremony. Diana says that the experience taught her that there are always red flags, but that women tend to ignore them, and that even though being alone is hard, things always work out. She tells women to stay close to their families and God because they are usually the best source of hope.
