I broke down after a lady told me I have no man in my life and kids – MP reveals

The Domeabra-Obom MP has described some of the abuse and insults she receives from individuals, especially women.

Madam Sophia Ackuaku said she broke down after a woman mocked her for not having a husband, although she has since developed a thick skin. Madam Sophia Ackuaku was speaking on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem morning show on Wednesday as part of the celebration of International Women's Day.

“When a woman once remarked that I don't have a husband and questioned why I was contesting in a constituency without a man, I was deeply moved and taken aback by the statement.

She went on to say that I didn't have any children. I realised then that she didn't really know me and didn't understand what she was saying because I have three boys, I've been married before and I'm divorced," she continued.


She claims that although she has received numerous attacks simply for being a woman, she has learned to ignore them all.

Talking about how she manages the household despite her busy schedule, Madam Ackuaku said that despite the limited time she has for her children, she does her best to make them feel loved and attend to their needs.

"Since I don't have much time to spend with my children, I have decided to spend time with them on Sundays. This works for me and the children because I know that not everyone wants to call you on Sundays because they know that we all go to church.”

But one of her boys recalled telling her: “I remember one time saying that one day when I come back they won't be here because I won't have the chance to look after them because they will be grown up. I was really upset and knew that I really had to make time for them," she recalled.
