I travelled to Brazil World Cup with only GHS20 as pocket money - Ghanaian Man reveals

Theophilus Abaya-Tei Teye, a Ghanaian who lives in Brazil, said that he went to Brazil in 2014 as a fan of the Black Stars, but he ran away from the camp.

In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa, Theophilus said that it had always been his dream to live somewhere else. He took the chance to join the Black Stars supporters union so that he could cheer for the team in Brazil.

Theophilus says that many supporters ran away to other countries. "Some went to the United States and Canada. We got here on two flights, but only half of us could go back to Ghana.

They were ready to go and had dollars with them, but I only had GHC20. So I stayed in Brazil, where I met people who helped me and took me in as their own child. I finally got my work permit and started to work."

Theophilus also said that getting documents in Brazil was easier than in other Western countries. Theophilus talked about his job and salary in Brazil. He said that as a machine operator, he makes about GHS6000 a month.

"There are plenty of jobs here. Since I live in Zongo, I don't have to pay for electricity or water. We who live in these places only pay rent. I don't pay tuition, and the government even gives the kids a food box to help them out," he said.
