‘I want to be President because I want to be NPP flagbearer’ – Dr Afriyie Akoto

Because of the power it holds, the presidency is probably one of the most coveted positions in the nation. Those who aspire to positions of power have a variety of reasons for doing so.

Several candidates from the two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have emerged in the run-up to the 2024 elections, offering messages of hope and improving the lives of Ghanaians if elected.

Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Minister of Agriculture, is one of the candidates vying to be the flagbearer of the NPP.

But according to Dr Akoto, this commitment is backed by his desire to support the NPP.

Speaking to Evans Mensah on JoyNews' PM Express on Monday, he gave this hint.

Why do you want to be president, Evans Mensah asked. He replied, "I want to be president because I want to be the flagbearer of the NPP".

Dr Akoto, one of the nine aspirants vying to be the flagbearer of the NPP, claimed that the party was losing ground in terms of the number of votes it was getting at the polls.
