I was paid GH₵300 monthly to work in South Africa for six years and this happened

Dorcas Oduro, who is in her mid-40s, talked about being a hairdresser in South Africa.

Dorcas said on Daily Hustle with DJ Nyame that after six years and three months, she only made GHS14,000 and was paid GHS300 each month. She says that the "helper" paid for her plane ticket and travel papers.

"I was supposed to be there for four years, but I stayed two years longer. We agreed to get our money in Ghana when the contract was over, but she gave me money so I could buy what I needed while I was in South Africa.

Also, I couldn't leave the house or go on a date. I decided to come back after six years, and she gave me GHS24,000.

Dorcas said that after some time in Ghana, she decided to work again in South Africa and hired a "agent." The agent told Dorcas that it would cost GHS2000 to process her document, but she paid GHS1000 to get started.

"The agent told me that he was working in Dubai instead, and I agreed. I gave him GHS1,000, and he told me I'd be leaving in two weeks. I added the rest, the flight date came and went, and he still had reasons why he couldn't go. When I asked for my money, he only sent GHS200.

After that, he stopped answering my calls, and when he did, I told him I had proof on my phone and that I would report him. A few days later, someone stole my phone when they came to my shop. "I think it was he who sent him," Dorcas said.
