I will move the capital city from Accra if I become President – Kwabena Agyei Agyepong

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, who is running for the flagbearership position of Ghana's ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has suggested relocating Ghana's capital city from Accra due to the population increase.

He proposed a location between Kintampo and Salaga, near the Volta River, as a potential prime spot for the new capital city. He emphasized that a well-planned city with good road networks, streets, and amenities could accommodate important buildings like the AU offices. He stressed the importance of adhering to a plan, including the provision of playgrounds and designated areas for children, ensuring cleanliness and proper street layout.

Agyepong cited the example of Nigeria, with Lagos as the commercial capital and Abuja as the political capital, to support his case. He believes that Ghana should consider relocating its capital. However, he declined to use this as a campaign issue, stressing the importance of uniting all Ghanaians as one nation.

He questioned the location of a cocoa processing factory in Tema instead of places like Hohoe or Sehwi. Additionally, he expressed his doubts about the impact of the Tree Crops Authority on Ghana's economy, three years after its establishment.
