‘If this country goes to war, it will be on your head’ – Edward Bawa cautions Jean Mensa in Parliament

Edward Abambire Bawa, a Member of Parliament for Bongo, has warned the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Adukwei Mensa, to be careful in her actions so as not to cause disorder in the country.

The MP claims that the EC's insistence on using the Ghana Card as the only method of adding new voters to the voters' register is likely to result in the disenfranchisement of many Ghanaians in the 2024 elections.

On 28 February 2023, a member of parliament referred to a situation in neighbouring Côte d'Ivoire where certain people were singled out as non-citizens, causing chaos.

Mr Bawa warned that Mrs Adukwei Mensa should take full responsibility for any conflict that erupts in Ghana as a result of the EC's activities.

"Mr Speaker, when it comes to elections, consensus is important. The country of Côte d'Ivoire is nearby. The problems in Côte d'Ivoire were caused by laws that were introduced to make it appear that some people weren't citizens.”

"Our land was intact when Afari Gyan gave it to Charlotte, who then gave it to you. You'll be responsible for any conflict this country enters into as a result," he said firmly.
