Former President Mahama ridiculed President Akufo-Addo for his previous statement that noise-making by Ghanaians was the reason behind the fall of the Cedi against international currencies.
Mahama considered the statement an insult to Ghanaians and pointed out that Akufo-Addo had previously knelt down to beg them. Mahama also joked that Akufo-Addo only started speaking French because he was struggling to manage the economy.
Mahama then referred to the Twi equivalent of Akufo-Addo's statement, "Sika mpɛ dede", which means "money does not like noise".
Mahama dismissed Akufo-Addo's claim that Ghanaians' talk was causing the economic meltdown, and instead accused the government of spreading lies about the causes of the crisis, including COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
