Joe Ghartey's Bold Promise: Make Me President and Experience the Kumasi to Accra Train Journey

Mr. Joe Ghartey, an aspirant for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former Minister for Railways, has made a promise to the residents of the Ashanti Region. If he is elected as the President of the Republic, he pledges to make it possible for them to travel from the region to the nation's capital, Accra, by train.

He urged the people to vote for him, assuring them that under his leadership, the railway system would play a crucial role in transforming Ghana. He emphasized the significance of connecting the two major cities of Accra and Kumasi, considering their large populations and the people residing between them.

Highlighting the statistics, Mr. Ghartey noted that the Ashanti Region alone has approximately five million inhabitants, while Greater Accra also boasts a population of about five million. Additionally, with approximately five million people residing between Kumasi and Accra, the total number of individuals affected by this transportation connection would reach around 15 million. This figure accounts for roughly half of Ghana's total population, emphasizing the necessity of a train link between Kumasi and Accra.

Furthermore, Mr. Ghartey addressed the issue of job creation in the railway sector. He informed the public that the government has taken steps to establish the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa, which will focus on training local individuals to work in the railway industry. By prioritizing the development of the railway sector and investing in education, he aims to ensure that Ghanaians are employed in this field.

Concluding his statement, Mr. Joe Ghartey reaffirmed his commitment to his promises. He encouraged the residents of Kumasi and the Ashanti Region to vote for him, as he envisions a future where they will be able to travel from Kumasi to Accra conveniently and comfortably by train. He emphasized that his words only represented his own stance and could not speak on behalf of others.
