Kejetia Market to be shut for 3 days after fire outbreak

After a fire outbreak, Kejetia Market will be closed for three days. However, from Friday to Sunday, people who were directly impacted by the fire will only be permitted access to their stores for three hours since those who deal in perishable goods will be given preference to inspect the condition of their goods.

It has not yet been determined what caused the fire that trapped numerous individuals and damaged valuables worth thousands of Cedis.

Meanwhile, members of the Ghana National Fire Service are criticising the New Kejetia Market's operators for failing to implement adequate fire safety procedures to prevent an escalation.

The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO1 Henry Giwah, told reporters at the scene of the incident on Thursday morning that his organisation had written to the managers numerous times to request that they address a number of fire safety issues that still needed to be addressed.

Kofi Duffour, the facility's managing director, has strenuously objected to this and insisted that they had implemented all necessary fire safety procedures.

He continued by saying that they would wait until the fire service had finished its investigation to ascertain what had caused the fire event.

At this time, we are unable to comment on the fire's source, so we must give the fire service time to complete their investigation.
