Kumasi Central Police Caught Stealing ECG Power?

According to a publication by MyNewsGH, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected the Kumasi Central Police command from the national grid due to illegal connection.

The reported stated, the Managing Director of ECG, Mr. Samuel Dubik Mahama, confirmed the theft and revealed that it was done through some illegal connection during monitoring by some staff of the company. The power theft was discovered when the ECG visited the station for checks on illegal connections and to retrieve money owed by their customers.

The ECG had previously announced a massive disconnection exercise on March 20 to mobilize revenue, as the company was owed over GH¢5 billion from September 2022 to February 2023. While the ECG has collected over GHC 2 billion of the total amount owed, Mr. Samuel Dubik Mahama disclosed that the Ghana Police Service is also on the list of customers engaged in power theft or illegal connection.

To curb power theft by the Ghana Police Service, the ECG plans to provide them with a bulk metering system, similar to that of the Ghana Armed Forces, where the company demands the bulk amount they have agreed upon, and the metering is none of their business. Mr. Samuel Dubik Mahama believes it's time to do the same for the Ghana Police.
