Yussif Alhassan Chibsah, a former Asante Kotoko and Black Stars midfielder, has emphasized that possessing academic qualifications is not the sole criterion for effective football administration.
He stated that if academic qualifications were the only requirement, then Dr. Randy Abbey, the only Ph.D. holder on the GFA Executive Council (EXCO), would have been appointed GFA President.
He told Angel Sports: If Oduro Sarfo thinks football is about academic certificates, Dr Randy Abbey is the only person on the Executive Council with a PhD, so he should be made GFA President.
Chibsah made these remarks in response to Nana Oduro Sarfo, another GFA EXCO member, who had advised former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah to pursue academic qualifications in order to qualify for a football administration role.
Appiah had expressed concern about ex-footballers being marginalized in football administration despite their suitability for the role. In contrast, Sarfo cited the example of Samuel Eto'o, the Cameroon FA president, who had pursued academic qualifications and affiliations with football associations before contesting for the FA presidency.
Sarfo therefore urged Appiah to acquire better academic knowledge and certificates if he desired to play a leadership role in the GFA.
