Man Who Has The World’s Longest Nose Is Yet To Have His Record Broken

In the early 1700s, Thomas Wedders was known to have the longest nose in the world. No one has ever been able to beat his record, even after a thousand years.

We can all probably think of someone with a big nose, whether it's a friend, a celebrity, or a cartoon character. But we're pretty sure no one you can think of has a nose as big as Wedders'.

Except maybe for Pinocchio, but only after he has lied a lot.

People say that Wedders' nose was so big that he showed it off all over Yorkshire for everyone to see, but there were no cameras around to catch it in all its glory.

The best way to say it was in an article from 1896's Vol. XI of The Strand Magazine:

So, if noses always showed how important a person was, this worthy man should have gotten all the money in Threadneedle Street and taken over all of Europe, since his nose was a mix of being greedy and being aggressive.

But either his chin was too weak or his brow was too low, or Nature was so busy giving this genius a nose that she forgot to give him brains. Or maybe the nose was so big that it pushed out the brains.

At any rate, we're told that this Yorkshireman died, nose and all, as he had lived: in a state of mind that could best be called the most utter stupidity.

To be exact, it was a huge 19 centimeters or 7.5 inches. In case you were wondering, that's 14 inches longer than an iPhone.

Ripley's Believe It or Not made a cartoon about the nose and made a wax figure that showed how long it really was. Wedders also has the longest nose in the world, which is a Guinness World Record.

We don't know much about Wedders' personal life, but it is said that he worked as a performer in various circus sideshows until he died in his early 50s.

He lived before the internet, but when a picture of his wax figure was posted on Reddit, it got a lot of attention.

One person who read the post and was shocked wrote:

People say that when you look at your own nose, your brain ignores it, but I don't know about that guy.

Another person asked:

What's really going on here? Tumor? Growth? Chance mistake in the genes? Do the nostrils reach the tip of the nose? I have so many questions…

We probably won't learn much more about Wedders' nose, but maybe someone will beat his record someday.
