Man shoots and kills wife after mistaking her for his son

Nuhu Umar Usman, who is 40 years old, has been arrested for murder by the Bauchi State Police Command.

In a statement released on Thursday, January 5, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil said that Usman, of Dangarfa village in Kyata Burra District, shot and killed his first wife, Ladi Nuhu, because he thought she was an intruder.

The suspect's two wives and his oldest son, who had a grudge against him and had threatened to hurt him, got into an argument, according to the PPRO.

This caused the suspect to load his Dane gun and keep it next to him all night while he waited for the intruder, who might have been his oldest son. Wakil said that the dead woman had left the room to go to the bathroom and was on her way back when the husband woke up because he heard a strange sound near his room.

He took the loaded gun from the table and shot her right in the stomach. Ladi was rushed to the hospital, where a doctor on duty confirmed that she was dead.

"Early investigation showed that the suspect and his dead wife slept in the same room that night. The suspect had two wives and six children," the statement said. "There was a fight between the wives, and the eldest son is still mad at the father and has threatened to hurt him because of it." Before that happened, the oldest son had made threats against the father. This caused the suspect to load his Dane gun and wait with him all night for the intruder, who might have been his oldest son." The investigation showed that while he and his 37-year-old wife, Ladi Nuhu, were sleeping in the same room on December 28, 2022, around 2:00 a.m., she left the room to use the bathroom."

On her way back to the room, the husband woke up when he heard something strange close to his room. He grabbed a Danish gun and shot her in the stomach. Because of this, she got hurt.

The victim was taken to the General Hospital Burra, but a doctor pronounced him dead there. "The Commissioner of Police CP Aminu Alhassan ordered that the suspect be charged in court when the investigation was finished."
