Massive Fire Engulfs Atonsu Suburb, Leaving Over 50 Homeless

A fire outbreak in the Atonsu suburb of Kumasi, Ashanti region has resulted in more than fifty people losing their homes and properties worth tens of thousands of Ghana cedis being destroyed. According to preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service, the fire was caused by a leaking gas cylinder. Nana Hemaa, the Safety Officer of the National Disaster Management in the Asokwa Municipality, confirmed the unfortunate incident and mentioned that no casualties have been reported so far, but the damage to properties could exceed 2 billion cedis.

Efforts are being made to provide shelter for those affected by the fire who have nowhere else to go. NADMO official Nana Hemaa stated that they will arrange temporary accommodations in classrooms or churches to ensure their safety. It was revealed that the fire originated in one of the bedrooms, as reported by a 13-year-old girl who was unable to alert others due to shock.

The Ghana National Fire Service promptly responded to the scene, although they initially arrived with a single tender that quickly ran out of water. Additional tenders that were deployed also faced technical issues, which prolonged the firefighting process.

In conclusion, the fire outbreak in Atonsu has caused significant devastation, leaving many people homeless and resulting in the destruction of valuable properties. Immediate measures are being taken to provide shelter and support to those affected, and authorities will be investigating the incident further to prevent such occurrences in the future.
