Meet the African billionaire who wants to buy Sheffield United

Dozy Mmobuosi, a Nigerian billionaire and internet entrepreneur, is apparently "involved in a £90m takeover of British football club Sheffield United".

According to The Times, the EFL's owners' and directors' test is currently being carried out on Mmobuosi, who is said to be worth around $7 billion, but no issues have yet been raised.

Despite being placed under a transfer embargo last month due to financial problems, the Blades are now challenging for promotion back to the Premier League this season.

The embargo, which prevents the club from making any player signings for the next 18 months until they are promoted, was imposed after the Blades failed to pay instalments on signings.

This included payments to Liverpool for Rhian Brewster, a striker who cost £23.5m when he signed in October 2020 but has failed to live up to both his price tag and expectations.

Last year, American Henry Mauriss came close to taking over the team, but the bid collapsed when he failed the EFL test. The Times claims that Dozy Mmobuosi's latest bid for the club is far more realistic.
