Model arrested for defrauding German man of $220,000 after promising to marry him

A young Nigerian woman, Cynthia Chioma, who gained fame on Instagram for her extravagant lifestyle, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defrauding a 50-year-old German man of $220,000.

According to SP Eyitayo Johnson, the spokeswoman for the Police Special Fraud Unit, Cynthia used social media to deceive the victim into believing that she loved him and wanted to marry him. She convinced him to move to Nigeria permanently, and even had him meet her parents, who gave their blessings for their marriage.

Cynthia then persuaded the victim to sell his house in Germany and send the proceeds, along with his pension and life savings, to her bank account. She claimed that the money would be used to buy a house for them to live in together and start a joint business. In reality, Cynthia used some of the money to buy a 2-bedroom terrace apartment in a high-end estate in Lagos and to support her mother's business and father's medical bills.

During the investigation, Cynthia admitted that she received the money from the victim, but efforts are still underway to recover the rest of the funds.

The Police Special Fraud Unit has vowed to continue to investigate and prosecute individuals who engage in fraudulent activities that harm the image of the country. Cynthia will face charges in court once the investigation is complete.
